If you come by car:
From the highway A1 Milano-Roma, exit in Firenze Sud. Proceed straight on a 4-lane road until you reach the bridge across river Arno (if you drive straight you cannot be mistaken). After crossing the bridge stay on the left and turn left (1,5 km). Driving alongside the river you arrive in a 4-lane boulevard. At the 4th traffic lights turn right (1 km).
After the 2nd traffic lights, the street turns towards left and there you have two options: to go straight or to turn right: turn right (700mt). At this point you find yourself under a flyover. Still follow the street's direction and, after the flyover, enter the 2-lane boulevard running alongside the railway. Go straight and pass the station Firenze Campo di Marte (1,3 km)
Don't drive until the end of the boulevard, which lightly curves to the left at the bottom, but turn left before, following the directions for via Masaccio. After 100 meters you are perpendicularly crossing via Masaccio. Turn right and search a parking place. The institute is at nê 175, in front of Banco di Roma.
Note on parking in Florence
Almost all zones have only two kinds of parking sites: for residing inhabitants, marked with the WHITE line and a sign indicating residents' parking places at the beginning of the streets, and for non-residing people, marked with the BLUE line and charged a price. The cost is around 1500 lire per hour. As soon as you park, you shall take the ticket from the machines placed at the corners of the streets and PUT IT VISIBLY ON THE DASHBOARD. It is advisable to pay for the parking because the Municipal Police of Florence pays particular attention to the parking places, since they are in a small number. The fine is 67.800 lire for no parking or no payment. You'd better pay for 2 hours or more to stay relaxed. NEVER park outside the blue lines, they are the only admitted parking places! Note that if you want to take a tour of the historical center, you have to walk, because it is prohibited to enter that zone by car.
If you come by train:
Visit the website: Ferrovie dello Stato Spa to learn more about the route, the timetable and the prices. Station Firenze Santa Maria Novella SMN: getting off the train and walking with the train station in front of you, turn RIGHT and leave the station. In front you find the bus stop. Take the bus nê 17 or 20 or 11 (check out the direction: to Campo di Marte/Stadio). Ask the driver to warn you when your stop approaches (via Masaccio, there is only one stop there). The Institute is straight in front of you when you get off the bus.
